The land which covers 7500 square kilometers in the
tropical area in Honghe Hani & Yi Autonomous Prefecture is a
treasure. Since the Tropic of Cancer crosses the prefecture, there
is a mild climate with plentiful rainfall. The annual average
temperature is from 16 to 20 greed Centigrade and the annual
sunshine time of 2000 hours. It is good for all crops; therefore
there are varied biological resources. The grain crops are mainly
rice and corn, while the cash crops are mostly tobacco,
sugar-cane, peanut and rape-seed, A big quantity of forest crops
like rubber, shellac, Amomum tsaoko, palm fiber, tea, species,
herbs and sisal is produced.
There are also many types of fruits with better
taste and good qualities such as lychees, oranges, pineapples,
grapes, pomegranates, bananas, etc., among which bananas are
harvested the whole year around and shipped to Sichuan, Guizhou,
Northeast and Northwest of China. Fresh grapes are also marketed
the year around, and sold to 12 provinces, regions and 40 cities.
The concentrated pineapple juice has been sold to Europe. The
project of a 700 ha.(10,000 mu) pomegranate plantation is
completed. Honghe Prefecture has become a main fruit producer of
Yunnan province.
Honghe prefecture, rich in mining resources, is one
of many nonferrous metals bases in China. So far about 6.4 million
metric tons of nonferrous metals have been found, of which 0.78
million tons of tin,70 million tons of ferrous metals,16 million
tons of manganese,0.8 million tons of titanium,5 billion tons of
nepheline,0.5billion square meters of marble, and 5 billion tons
of coal have been verified. The hydropower capacity usable is 1.34
million kilowatts.
